In the hearing world, there’s tourist information everywhere – brochures, signs, audio guides, city tours, online platforms. But for deaf or hard-of-hearing people, traveling is often difficult. There’s a lack of accessible communication, sign language services, or clear visual guidance.
Deaf24 wants to change that.
We aim to build a global platform that collects, shares, and recommends accessible offers for the Deaf community. We’re looking for Deaf people around the world to join us, share their experiences, and report on accessible places.
Stronger Together: Connecting Deaf People Worldwide
Are you Deaf or hard of hearing? Do you know accessible places in your region or from your travels? Then become part of our network! Deaf24 wants to make the world more visible and accessible for the Deaf community – together with you.
We’re looking for:
- Accessible cafés, restaurants, and hair salons
- Deaf-friendly hotels, guesthouses, or campsites
- Museums, city tours, or hiking trails with visual access
- Deaf tour guides and companions
- Leisure activities with interpreting or visual support
- Deaf-owned businesses and meeting points
- Tips for beaches, parties, excursions, events, and international meetups
We look forward to your contributions, videos, photos, or interviews.
Accommodation & Hospitality – Accessible & Welcoming
Deaf24 wants to highlight accommodations that warmly welcome Deaf guests – whether it’s a vacation apartment, hotel, or private room. Many Deaf travelers seek a quiet, visually accessible, and trustful place to stay.
We are looking for:
- Hotels with light signal systems, vibrating alarm clocks, or video chat services
- Private hosts with a spare room in their home
- Holiday apartments with simple visual orientation aids
- Hosts with experience welcoming Deaf guests
- Campsites, hostels, or wellness hotels with barrier-free information
People without sign language diplomas are also welcome – as long as they are open-minded, respectful, and visually communicative.
Dining & Services – Visual, Clear, and Friendly
What’s better than dining out or being pampered – without communication barriers? Deaf24 collects tips on where that’s possible.
For example:
- Cafés with easy visual ordering systems or pictograms
- Restaurants with staff experienced in communicating with Deaf guests
- Hairdressers, beauty, or massage salons with non-verbal communication
- Markets, shops, or pharmacies open to visual communication
- Clubs, bars, or cultural venues with lighting technology or subtitles
Culture, Knowledge, and Nature – Accessible Discoveries
The Deaf community loves culture, history, and nature – but access is often limited. Deaf24 wants to make accessible cultural and recreational activities visible around the world.
For example:
- Museums with sign language tours or video guides
- Libraries with easy-to-read materials and visual learning tools
- Hiking trails with clear symbols and visual maps
- Sports programs or fitness classes tailored for the hard of hearing
- Events with lighting, interpreters, or vibration technology
Travel with Safety – Travel Updates & Orientation
Many travel announcements are purely acoustic – announcements, alerts, instructions. Deaf24 wants to support Deaf travelers on the road. We collect tips for accessible travel:
- Airports with interpreting services or SMS notifications
- Buses and trains with visual displays
- Navigation apps using symbols instead of text
- Video interpreting at border control or in hotels
- Taxi or pick-up services via chat or messenger
- Travel updates with accessible info, like delays or route changes
Emergencies & Authorities – Communicate Without Barriers
Deaf24 frequently hears of Deaf tourists facing serious problems abroad during emergencies. Authorities, police, or rescue services are usually not prepared for Deaf people. We want to build a platform with support services and emergency contacts.
Typical situations:
- Theft or illness while traveling
- No visual emergency information
- No interpreter at the police station
- No access to official travel alerts or strike information
- Problems with cancellations or rebookings without accessible communication
We aim to collect emergency contacts, info centers, and support services for Deaf people worldwide – so no one is left alone. Menschen zusammentragen – damit niemand allein bleibt.
Encounters: Meet Deaf Locals and Discover Their Cultures
A special opportunity while traveling: Deaf travelers can meet local Deaf people. This is not only exciting – it’s also important. Through this, we learn how other Deaf communities live in different countries.
Why this is so valuable:
- Discover different Deaf cultures and mentalities
- Experience both similarities and differences
- Exchange ideas on education, family, work, rights, and barriers
- Build global networks for Deaf people
- Create personal friendships
That’s why Deaf24 also wants to promote intercultural exchanges between Deaf people – through travel reports, interviews, portraits, or meet-up tips.
Conclusion: Making the World Visible for Deaf People
The world is big, diverse, and fascinating – but often not accessible to Deaf people. Deaf24 wants to change that and build a platform by Deaf people – for Deaf people:
- With real-life tips and personal experiences
- With recommendations for accessible leisure, travel, and culture
- With help for traveling and emergencies
- With opportunities for Deaf people to connect across borders
- With a network that empowers, protects, and strengthens
